Thank you for your desire to come alongside us as we reach out to and strengthen the villages and orphaned children in the Kisumu District of Kenya. Our volunteers who serve on missions teams are collectively known as "Team Maisha."
Each mission is action packed with work projects and relationship building time with the children and families we serve. The projects are designed to improve their facilities, programs, and living conditions. At Maisha, we know education is the key to a bright future. Each mission group has its own unique gifts and areas of expertise and we will be able to use those in specific ways to live out our focus to EDUCATE in 2012-2013.
| Educate |
Promote Legacy of Hope child sponsorships, facilitate learning activities and implement Maisha Academy, an early childhood education classroom. Also promote spiritual wisdom through bible study and worship. |
| Develop |
Increase sustainability and nutrition by incorporating crops from Shambas of Maisha (Gardens of Life). Continue to feed orphans and needy children in the community lunch at the Maisha Center and build an adjoining modern kitchen to facilitate higher standard of sanitation and food safety. |
| Understand |
Treat local diseases in an area where little to no medical care is available. Expand mission medical outreaches by building Maisha Clinic, a permanent facility that will provide basic medical care and save countless lives. |
| Care |
Nurture the whole child by building Maisha Homes, single family foster homes where orphans are nurtured and given not only a safe place to live, but the care they need to become productive members of society. |
| Assist |
Minister to PLWA’s (People Living with HIV/AIDS) in our Living Positive program by continuing home based care visits where we encourage them, help do tasks they are unable to perform themselves and provide basic staple items. Increase levels of HIV/AIDS care, education and awareness to the entire community to fight this disease. |
| Train |
Teach locals to dig wells, install a solar pump to irrigate gardens and develop a rain harvesting system within the Maisha Village and corresponding structures. |
| Empower |
Hold economic enterprise training classes at the Maisha Center classroom; develop Maisha Tailoring Program and microfinance initiatives. |
