Team Maisha

The Team Maisha is a student directed group with the focus of improving the lives of the children of Kenya through interactive educational program that empowers students by offering them with a well-rounded education as well as encouragement and the tools they need to succeed.

Team Maisha is also committed to educate the students of America about the current situation in Africa and what they can do to help.

Millions of children have been orphaned due to AIDS or malaria in Kenya. The government in Kenya is not capable to provide funding to most orphanages. Food and shelter are the most important needs; however, without education, the population will remain poverty stricken.

The Maisha focus of Team Maisha is Maisha Art and Cultural Camp (MACC) founded by Kendall Brown of University of Oklahoma. MACC was founded in 207 in order to address the need for an emotional outlet for the children of Kisumu, Kenya particularly violent time during their Country’s history. In 2007, not only did the terrible flooding render thousands homeless as their houses crumbled, post-election violence left more than 270,000 homeless and over 300 dead in the normally peaceful country. Team Maisha will be hosting MACC every summer in Kenya and has goals in the immediate future to build a library for the children and begin a scholarship fund for the children’s continuing education.
